Welcome to
the home of
Testwood Boxers
situated in beautiful countryside north of
Southampton.
It is always kept as a small kennel with never more than 6 dogs, so
they can be part of the family! While I enjoy wins in the show ring,
I get just as much pleasure when people who have puppies from me or
by my
stud dogs
contact me especially to say how wonderful they are and how much
pleasure they give.
I put a lot of thought into potential sires, studying temperament as
well as looks. I will not use a hyperactive or hot-tempered stud. I
have worked very hard to keep the original laid back temperament
from my first Redfyre
show boxer, and think I have succeeded. Most
puppies go into family pet homes, so I believe temperament is of
prime importance.
As a “dog mad” teenager I worked weekends and school holidays for 5
years in the Cielo pug and boarding kennel, saving up my “wages” to
buy a pug, Misty, who went everywhere with me, sitting in the basket
on the front of my bike. I showed him with limited success and also
sometimes handled the show pugs for the owner of the kennel.
My first boxer in 1975 was a daughter of Ch Starmark Sweet Talking
Guy, out of a daughter of Int Ch Seefeld Picasso. Bought as a family
pet, she was disobedient, destructive and a law unto herself!! If we
didn’t take her for a walk when she wanted, she would simply put her
head down and charge through the fence, many times seen walking
across the field with a fence panel across her shoulders. But we all
loved her.
When we moved to Warminster, Norma Byerley of the Redfyre Boxers
kindly took me to shows and taught me so much about boxers. She was
my good dear friend for nearly 20 years until she died suddenly in
1996.
My first show
boxer in 1981 was Glorious Encore of Redfyre (Sophie),
a daughter of Ch Tyegarth Famous Grouse, and a repeat of the mating
that produced Ch Redfyre Glorious Twelfth. Sophie won consistently
for me, gaining 2 Res CC’s, and was the grandmother of Ch Redfyre
Prima Donna and Canadian Ch Redfyre Northern Lights.
A growing family meant we could only keep one or two boxers, and
they stayed with us for life – which in Sophie’s case was 14 years!
So there were several years when although I went to shows I had
nothing to exhibit, although I did a fair bit of judging at this
time.
After Norma had a stroke, I was able to return the help she had
given me and I handled her puppy, Redfyre Prima Donna, to her title
before she was 2 years old. I chose a pup from Donna by Ch Wrencliff
Flying Scotchman of Winuwuk, and he was Redfyre First Footer
(Hamish).

Redfyre First
Footer winning Best in Show at 20 months old
He won consistently in the ring (including multiple firsts at
Championship Shows and Best in Shows at Open shows and Boxer Breed
shows) and was a joy to live with, because he was a kind, gentle
dog. He was used at stud a few times and produced super winning
youngsters. He is behind
Testwood Takoma,
Testwood Bouzy Rouge and
Testwood Daydream Believer at Waiheke (Res CC).

Velsheda Maverick at 6 years
of age
He sired Velsheda Maverick (Geoffrey) (bred by Mary and Dave
Preston), who is still fit and well at nearly 11 years old (see his
photo). Because of my domestic circumstances I hardly showed Geoff,
but even so he qualified for Crufts each year (although I was never
able to take him). He sired Chrisgay Boogie Loogie at
Testwood, who
won Best Puppy at Championship Shows and numerous Best of Breeds,
and also a bitch for Gaynor Warriner who won Best in Shows, Best
Puppy and Best of Breed awards.
